考えたことを、かたちにする。それが有機化学の根源的な魅力です。

分子を設計し、反応を構築し、実在する“もの”として立ち上げる過程には、 想像を超えた面白さがあります。

一方で、考えることと、かたちにすることの間には、想像以上に高い壁があります。

思いついただけでは終わらない。手を動かし、失敗し、考え直し、また挑む。 そうした経験を通して、学生は確実に成長していきます。

私たちが言う「かたちにする」とは、単なる実験の成功を指しません。 知として永続的に残る、論文というかたちに昇華させることを意味します。 そのために、私たちは、 論文を残すことを何よりも大切にしています。 実際、私たちの研究室では、一定期間しっかり在籍した学生は、全員が論文を残してきました。 それは、自らの歩みと成果を、未来へ託せるかたちとして残すということです。

そして、私たちにとって論文よりもさらに大切なものがあります。 それは、信義・道理・人倫です。 どれほど目を引く成果であっても、それが他者を踏みにじることで得られたものであれば、 そこに意味はありません。 私たちは、互いの信頼を礎としながら、 化学的に意味のある知の結晶を創出すること、 そしてそれが学生一人ひとりの中に「証」として息づくことを、 研究室としての使命としています。

To shape what we think into tangible form — this is the fundamental allure of organic chemistry.

The design of molecules, the creation of reactions, and the realization of ideas in physical, observable matter — these processes offer a unique sense of intellectual satisfaction.

Yet, between thinking and shaping lies a wall taller than most imagine.

Great ideas are not enough. One must act, fail, reflect, and try again. Through this process, our students grow — not just as researchers, but as thinkers.

In our lab, to shape does not simply mean successful experiments. It means to crystallize our ideas into papers — enduring forms of knowledge. We place the highest value on writing and publishing papers that stand the test of time. In fact, every student who has spent a significant period in our lab has produced a paper. This is not a boast — it is a reflection of our commitment to preserving each research journey as a legacy.

And yet, even more important than papers are integrity, reason, and humanity. No matter how novel or eye-catching a result may be, if it betrays trust or violates ethics, it is ultimately meaningless. We believe that only through trust and shared values can we create knowledge that truly matters — knowledge that lives on both in the literature and within those who helped to create it.
