Our policy

Synthetic organic chemistry has made remarkable progress in the last 20 years, focusing on methodological development and synthesis of low-molecular-weight compounds. In our laboratory, we conduct complex-structure carbohydrate synthesis based on fine organic synthetic chemistry. In addition to the basic operation skills of synthetic organic chemistry and structural analysis of molecules with large molecular weights, students can learn glycobiology as well. We can synthesize medium- to large-molecular-weight compounds based on sugar motifs, which are deeply related to biological phenomena such as glycans and glycoconjugates. We are also developing antibody-drug conjugates. Our aim and approach are quite unique.

We hope to create high value-added compounds that are in demand from the society and to disseminate the results of our highly original research to the world.
We welcome undergraduate and graduate students as well as researchers from industry to join us. We would also like to promote joint research with companies and make our laboratory open to society.

I believe that trial and error in research during the time of students will be a source of sustenance for the future. There is no right answer in research. I would also like to ask you to respect each other and make connections inside and outside the university. Synthetic organic chemistry is a field of study that enables the creation of materials, and can be integrated with many other fields such as biology and condensed matter science. I hope that you will develop your future with synthetic organic chemistry. Our projects are challenging ones. I would like to talk about the future of chemistry with you. Let's go on an adventure together in an unexplored field.
